GVCC Sunday School
On Sunday morning at GVCC, children are eager to join their teachers and friends as their parents drop them off for Sunday School. After a brief time of free play, children recite their weekly memory verses to the teacher and then join their classmates on the carpet for the Bible lesson. This is followed by a time of real-life application and prayer. The morning finishes with a few verses of a Christian children’s song and a project related to the earlier Bible lesson.
This scene is played out in a variety of classrooms every week at GVCC, modified as age-appropriate. GVCC has a dynamic and engaging children’s Sunday School program. The Sunday School’s vision statement is, “To see children born again by the power of the Holy Spirit through faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ. We also desire that they grow in knowledge and obedience to the infallible Holy Scriptures.”
The Sunday School curriculum varies by developmental level and includes lessons from sermons by Pastor Mathew, the Westminster Shorter Catechism, and The Child’s Story Bible by Catherine Vos, just to name a few. Children in each grade level are presented with rich and thought-provoking teaching. All students are exhorted to think about what they are learning, to apply it specifically to their lives, and even to share about what God is speaking to them if they feel comfortable. Specific curriculum information can be found here.
Another benefit to the Sunday Sch
ool program is that children are encouraged to form friendships that teach them the joys of being part of God’s community, the church. One way the students do this is by learning and performing special songs in the annual Children’s Christmas Program, which many of them look forward to each year. If you have children and attend GVCC, please join us for Sunday School!
