Looking Back on Sports & Fitness Camp 2014

Surely, when we look back over the summer of 2014, Grace
Valley Christian Center’s 5th Annual Sports and Fitness Camp will be counted a highlight! “We are extremely happy with how the 2014 Sports & Fitness turned out. God blessed every aspect of the camp from the number of campers who attended to the high quality of the coaching staff. We pray that God was glorified through this ministry and that seeds of the Gospel were planted,” shared camp director, Greg Chapla.
God blessed us with over 100 campers, beautiful weather, excellent training in athletics and, above all, His most precious word. The theme this year came from 1 Corinthians 16:13, “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” Coaches encouraged kids to stand firm against temptation and to stand for God’s truth. Campers were also reminded that while it is good to strive for physical and mental strength, the most important thing is to be strong in God’s word.
Monica Jackura, a mom of three boys who attended the camp said, “Sports & Fitness Camp is always highly anticipated by our three sons and this year was no different! Our son Elias said he particularly enjoyed hearing stories from the coaches’ lives that showed him how to put I Corinthians 16:13 into practice.”
As the kids and coaches rotated through eight different athletic stations – including hockey, soccer and football – they had many opportunities to put God’s word into practice. Both participants and coaches worked hard, encouraged one another and persevered through new challenges. The camp was characterized by unity and godly fellowship and, for that we give God great praise! The last day of camp was a special blessing as parents and siblings joined the campers and coaches for lunch, and an awards ceremony in the park. Coaches presented each child with a certificate and shared a special memory or encouraging word about them.
Finally, Mr. Greg Perry shared the gospel of Jesus Christ with the entire group, adding, “It is our earnest prayer that each camper and their families would come to the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and an increasing love for Him as a result of God’s work in and through GVCC’s 5th Annual Sports and Fitness Camp.”
