Grace Alive Welcomes UCD Students
For members of Grace Alive, the commencement of the 2012-2013 school year at UC Davis carries eager expectation of the great works of salvation and sanctification that God will do in his people.
Daniel Contreras, a fourth year engineering major and president of Grace Alive, remarks, “I want to see God work mightily in us, giving us all a greater vision and earnestness for his kingdom.” This is the universal sentiment among the members of Grace Alive.
Grace Alive’s mission statement summarizes its primary purpose an
d ambition: “Standing on the truth of God’s Word and through the power of the Holy Spirit, Grace Alive aims to lead students to saving faith in Jesus Christ and to live victorious Christian lives, for the glory of God.” With this in mind, the group held their first campus events of the school year.
“Welcome Night” was held at 100 Hunt Hall on Wednesday evening, September 26, and provided an ideal opportunity for students and leaders to introduce themselves to incoming UCD students. Approximately 90 people attended, and many newcomers expressed their appreciation of the group’s warm atmosphere and clear presentation of the gospel. One student remarked, “It was a blessing to see other students who are excited about serving God and ready to make real Christian friendships, not just be friendly.” Later in the week a pizza party and scavenger hunt were held at the UCD quad and arboretum.
Those who attend Grace Alive have the adde
d blessing of connection to a bold, biblical church that is interested in helping each student live a victorious Christian life. Mr. Gregory Perry, the GVCC university minister, states, “Grace Alive is really the outreach arm of the church to the campus. Christ’s purpose was to build his church. We think it is of utmost importance for students to get involved in a local church, and not just a campus fellowship group.”
David Killeen, a second year student at UCD, encourages new students on campus to get involved with the group: “Students who are looking for a group can get involved by coming to our weekly meetings, Wednesdays at 7PM in Young 184, and attending any upcoming events. We will be having a table at the Fall Activities Fair at the UC Davis MU Quad on October 17, so people can come learn more about our group there.” Please hold this college ministry’s evangelistic efforts up in prayer, and may God bless the students’ desire to live for Christ and see souls saved.
